Hitachi expands portable storage drives to cloud

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies on Tuesday introduced new Touro storage offerings that package local and online storage so that data can be accessed locally or through the cloud via smartphones and tablets.

The new Touro Pro line includes portable storage devices for local backup, and free online storage of up to 3GB for cloud backup, Hitachi said in a statement. The company provides applications for data to be backed up simultaneously on both accounts, or to be transported between storage accounts.

Slaughterhouse Are Working 'Slowly And Surely' On Album

'We're about seven or eight songs in,' Royce Da 5'9" tells MTV News.
By Rob Markman

Though Royce Da 5'9" is busy putting the finishing touches on his Bad Meets Evil EP with Eminem, the Detroit MC says that his upcoming group album with Slaughterhouse is still a priority.

"It's just something to set up Slaughterhouse anyway," Royce told MTV News about the Bad Meets Evil project. "That's our main focus right now, is Slaughterhouse and then we got Yelawolf. We're just trying to start a movement."

The group, which consists of Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I and, of course, Royce, first formed in 2008 after appearing on a Budden track together. In 2009, the rap quartet dropped their self-titled debut album independently on E1 (formerly Koch) then signed to Eminem's Shady Records in December 2010. Since the high-profile signing, fans of the group have been awaiting their second LP, Monster. Royce assures that Slaughterhouse is hard at work, although news broke this week that he and Eminem will be dropping a joint EP in June.

"Yeah, we're working on it slowly but surely, slowly and surely," he said of the Slaughterhouse. "They're coming here [to Detroit] for seven days starting on the 12th of May. We did the last album in six days, so sky's the limit on how much we gonna get recorded while they're here."

Royce also revealed that he and the crew already have a number of tracks recorded. "We're about seven or eight songs in. Just cutting randoms, just to see where we are at."

As of now, no release date has been set for Slaughterhouse's Monster.

Are you looking forward to the next Slaughterhouse album? Tell us in the comments!

'X-Men: First Class' Writing Credits Appeal Denied

Sheldon Turner and Bryan Singer will receive ?story by? credit and Ashley Miller & Zack Stentz and Jane Goldman & Matthew Vaughn will share screenplay credit.

X-Men: First Class

The WGA made its final ruling today on the writing credits of X-Men First Class after several of the movie?s scribes and their representative madetheir last stand in a complicated arbitration over Fox?s superhero movie.

The appeals board ruled to let the initial decision?Sheldon Turner and Bryan Singer will receive ?story by? credit and Ashley Miller & Zack Stentz andJane Goldman & Matthew Vaughn will share screenplay credit?remain in place.

As THR first reported, Jamie Moss, who worked on the script off of a treatment by Singer, challenged the decision. Singer also appealed the decision and was repped in the proceedings by his attorney.

Read the full backstory here, but Moss was upset that Turner -- who penned a script for a scrapped Magneto spinoff, elements of which were incorporated into First Class ? is receiving a story credit while Moss's work on an early version of First Class is not being recognized.

Moss appeared in front of the appeals panel today but was informed after lunch that his appeal was denied.

According to sources, one of the key reasons the panel let the credits stand was that both Magneto and First Class use a Nazi doctor with mutant powers as a villain, and the character has the same story arc in both scripts.

Friday?s decision will make life easier for Fox, which might have been forced to delay locking the picture if a new arbitration process was launched.

Shed a Tear: The Age of Broadband Caps Begins Monday [Internet]

? Come Monday, AT&T will begin restricting more than 16 million broadband users based on the amount of data theyuse in a month. The No. 2 carrier's entry into the broadband-cap club means that a majority of U.S. broadband users will now be subject to limits on how much they can do online or risk extra charges as ugly as video store late fees.

AT&T's new limits - 150 GB for DSL subscribers and 250 GB for UVerse users (a mix of fiber and DSL) - come as users are increasingly turning to online video such as Hulu and Netflix on-demand streaming service instead of paying for cable.

With the change, AT&T joins Comcast and numerous small ISPs in putting a price on a fixed amount of internet usage. It's a complete abandonment of the unlimited plans which turned the internet into a global behemoth after the slow-growth dial-up days, when customers were charged by the minute and thus accessed the internet as sparingly as possible.

Comcast's limit, put into place after it got caught secretly throttling peer-to-peer traffic, is 250 GB - which the company says less than 99 percent of users hit. AT&T plans to charge users an extra $10 per month if they cross the cap, a fee that recurs for each 50 GBs a user goes over the cap.And while 150 GB and 250 GB per month might seem like a lot, if you have a household with kids or roommates, it's not too difficult to approach those limits using today's services, even without heavy BitTorrent usage.

(For those not accustomed to calculating their bandwidth usage, video streaming and online gaming use much more bandwidth than web browsing or e-mailing. For instance, Netflix ranges from .3 GB per hour to 1.0 for normal resolution movies and up to 2.3 GB per hour for HD content.)

And it should noted that U.S. limits are far from the world's worst: Canada's recently imposed restrictions prompted Netflix to give customers there a choice of lower-quality streams to keep their usage down, because users are charged up to $5 per GB that they exceed their cap. Caps are also worse in Australia.

But for the nation which has been key to a wildly expanding internet, the changing tide is both a practical and cultural letdown.

The drive to cap usage isostensibly a way to reduce costs. But in reality, it's not aboutthe cost of data ?bandwidth costs are extremely low and keep falling.Time Warner Cable brought in $1.13 billion in revenue from broadband customers in the first three months of 2011, while spending only $36 million for bandwidth - a mere 3 percent of the revenue. Time Warner Cable doesn't currently impose bandwidth caps or metering on its customers - though they have reserved the right to do so - after the company's disastrous trial of absurdly low limits in 2009 sparked an immediate backlash from customers and from D.C. politicians.

The real problem ISPs want to fix is congestion due to limited infrastructure. Cable customers share what are known as local loops, and the more that your neighbors use their connection, the less bandwidth is available to you - a situation that becomes painfully clear in the evening, when cable users see their throughput fall.

The blunt-force approach of a bandwidth cap does have the advantage of making users think twice about streaming HD movies from Netflix. That is, perhaps not coincidentally, doubly to the advantage of most big ISPs, because they'd rather have you spending money on their video services than paying a third party.Bandwidth-intense services threaten to turn the likes of Comcast, AT&T and Time Warner Cable into utilities - a dependable business, but not one that has the huge profit margins these companies have come to enjoy.

Indeed, the question of who gets to write the rules about the internet's pipes is the major bone of contention in the net neutrality debate, both for terrestrial and mobile data networks. When the new net neutrality rules go into effect, ISPs won't be able to block their online video competition, but there's no rule against doing that with bandwidth caps or tiered usage pricing.

Moreover, as we all move towards more and more cloud services, whether that's for backups, music or movies, it's worrisome that ISPs are more concerned about reining in their most dedicated customers in service of meeting Wall Street's expectations. Instead, they should be taking the opportunity to dig up the streets to create fiber networks that will make us a nation that's top in the world's broadband-ranking chart, rather than a laggard.

The real solution is adding infrastructure at the local level, though an interim solution could entail metering data only during peak times, much as mobile-phone calling-minutes plans apply only during peak hours.

But, that just goes to show, yet again, that what's good for the Street often doesn't translate into what's good for the country.

The Future of Advertising Will Be Integrated

Editor?s Note: This is a guest post by Mark Suster (@msuster), a 2x entrepreneur, now VC atGRP Partners. Read more about Suster atBothsidesofthetable Banner Ads. They first started in 1994 and are therefore almost as old as the Web itself. They were very effective back then, with the original ad garnering a 78% click-through rate (CTR)! I guess from there we had nowhere to go but down. Nowadays banner ads get on average 0.2% CTR meaning for every 1,000 ads that are served up only 2 people click on them. And as Jon Steinberg of Buzzfeed points out, the CTRs for social media banner ads are just 0.08%. Holy Shiitake!

Zwapp Puts A Social Layer Over Your iPhone Apps

Sharing what mobile apps you have in a social network has been tried various ways. Appsfire hit on the idea of socialising apps. Zwapp is coming at it from a slightly different angle. Its iPhone app (iTunes link) auto-discovers what apps you have on your iPhone and connects up your contacts, Facebook and Twitter friends. You then follow people who's opinion's you respect when it comes to apps. It even has a live feed where you can see what apps your friends are using and downloading (privacy is now most definitely over it would seem).

Tom Hanks Says His College Years Inspired 'Larry Crowne'

'I was in junior college because it was my only option,' actor tells MTV News.
By Eric Ditzian

Tom Hanks with Julia Roberts in "Larry Crowne"
Photo: Universal Pictures

The first time Tom Hanks stepped behind the camera on a big-screen production, he captured a story set in the early 1960s, a period he had lived through as a preteen. But the particulars of "That Thing You Do!" — a rock band that rides a hit song to fame but can't follow through on their initial promise — couldn't have been further from Hanks' California childhood.

His second directorial effort, however, was inspired by events from his past, even if it does not seem so at first glance. In "Larry Crowne" — the upcoming comedy he also co-wrote and in which he stars with Julia Roberts — Hanks plays the title character, a guy fired from his job at a big-box retail store and forced to go back to college, where he meets a professor named Mercy Tainot (played by Roberts). But as Hanks told MTV News as part of our Summer Movie Preview week, he actually relates to his character's plight.

"My first years in college were much like Larry's," he told us. "I was in junior college because it was my only option — if I didn't enroll right after high school I would have had no path to any future. Two years in junior college became the jumping-off point for everything that came later and I think this was the same for others — not just kids out of high school, but guys back from Vietnam, wives going back to school after their kids were older, and folks who were looking to change their lives for the better."

While the genesis of the film came from Hanks' early college years, he enlisted Nia Vardalos, whose "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" he'd produced in 2002, to collaborate on the script.

"Nia and I talk all the time and laugh constantly, and I wanted a woman's voice to be a part of the movie, since Mercy Tainot is in a comparable life situation as Larry," Hanks explained. "Nia worked exclusively on the screenplay, based on meetings she and I had, for a number of drafts. Then the script sat in a drawer for a couple of years. I then worked exclusively on the screenplay through the complete production. The story evolved through both of us, though, and what I was shooting for was built up with every draft."

Roberts and Hanks have worked together before, on the political drama "Charlie Wilson's War," but they hadn't shared the screen on lighter material. He does, though, see a connection between that earlier film and "Larry Crowne" in that "we were playing real people in real circumstances." Similarities aside, Hanks simply knew Roberts was the perfect person for the role.

"Julia is Mercy Tainot — funny, wicked intelligent, driven and not one to suffer fools at all," he said. "But make no mistake of Julia's ability to find what is funny in a scene smack up against what is authentic."

For all the comedic elements of the film, there is a dramatic arc for both characters. Larry, for instance, essentially has to reinvent himself in middle age. And if Hanks had to refashion his own life, he joked that he'd strike out in a rather unexpected direction: "I'd go for the Iggy Pop look and gravitas."

Check out everything we've got on "Larry Crowne."

On the same day that Charlie Sheen filed for divorce, his estranged wife Brooke Mueller also filed for divorce.

Mueller cites irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split and lists the couple's date of separation as December 25, the day that Sheen was arrested on domestic violence charges related to an argument with Mueller.

She is seeking physical custody of the children, but asks for joint legal custody of their twin toddlers-- Bob and Max. She asks that Sheen pay for attorneys fees and pay spousal support. The divorce filing comes just days after Sheen was found with an adult film star in a New York City hotel room that he allegedly trashed, and was taken to the hospital for what his rep called "an allergic reaction."

The estranged couple was married back in May 2008.

'American Idol' Report Card: James Durbin Is King!

The rocker surprises us with his soft side on Carole King night, while Jacob Lusk fails to make the grade.
By Eric Ditzian

James Durbin performs on "American Idol" on Wednesday
Photo: Michael Becker/ Fox

This far into the "American Idol" season, it's nice to know we can still be surprised. Look at that — James Durbin, sans flaming piano, marching band or guitar god, crooning like a vulnerable pop-rock star. And wow, Randy Jackson is arguing that we hadn't actually heard Jacob Lusk sing up until now, but now he's sung, and that's a good thing because "we like to hear you sing!" And watch Miley Cyrus pop into the frame long enough to dis Jimmy Iovine, who for once just sits there and (unhappily) takes it.

Oh, did we mention the night's theme was the songbook of Carole King? There were surprises aplenty on Wednesday's show, but one thing is for certain: At the end of the night, everyone's got to stand up and be judged. That's where our "Idol" report card comes into play. (And tune in to this week's "Idol Party Live" right here for even more judgment!

Excellent

James Durbin: Is it really happening? Is James winning us over? Truth is, his take on "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" was easily his best performance since "Maybe I'm Amazed" in early March. As we've said again and again, broken record-like, James is at his best when he slips into sensitive rocker mode rather than when, for example, he tries to butt metalheads with big boys like Zakk Wylde. The arrangement was stellar, slowly building but never fully exploding. Kudos to James for keeping his urge to wail under control. Kudos to James, period. We don't think unseated Scotty McCreery as the one to beat, but at least he's part of the conversation.

Good

Scotty McCreery: In the night's most predictable turn, the judges welcomed Scotty back into the ranks of "Idol" contenders, as if he ever left. But even a highly rated reality shows need some artificial drama every so often, and so it was Scotty's lot this week to become some phoenix rising from the ashes of nearly dashed "Idol" dreams. He brought more emotion into his cover of "You've Got a Friend" than perhaps any other this season. Was this tune demonstrably better than his previous ones? Perhaps by a little, but that just goes to show how consistently strong Scotty's been. While Randy howled that the country kid is in it to win it, we have to say he's been on a winning track for a long, long time.

Haley Reinhart: We've lamented it before and we'll lament it again: Why did it take this long for Haley to find her bluesy form? If the 20-year-old had come out like this from the get-go, she'd have been able to build up a fanbase. Now, however, lines have been drawn, sides have been taken, and Haley finds herself a consistent member of the bottom three. That just ain't right! Her take on "Beautiful" offered a soft and sweet center sandwiched between some fierce, growly goodness. Like her take on Adele last week, the song had some verve, yet left her vocals room to explore. Still, we'd don't see how she avoids another trip to the bottom-three.

Satisfactory

Lauren Alaina: And so the ongoing saga of Lauren and Miley beats on, as "Idol" producers went so far as to haul the Disney princess into the studio in a transparent, and ultimately unsuccessful, attempt at damage control stemming from Jimmy's insult a few weeks ago. Who needs these distractions? Lauren has had trouble enough building up her confidence. Up on stage during "Where You Lead," her sass was, if not back, then at least present. Her little jig with a boy in the audience was nothing compared to her Steven Tyler lap dance back in Hollywood. The problem for Lauren was that her voice just seemed tired, perhaps from stretching to hit those high notes in rehearsals. Her vocals came off as shouty. Her post-performance composure, or lack thereof, made us sad. She hasn't found a way to insulate herself from the craziness of reality-show life.

Casey Abrams: The Casey we know, and sometimes love — a blues brother with attitude aplenty, rather than some educational jazz cat — was back on Wednesday with "Hi-De-Ho," though this particular performance didn't leave us feeling very devoted to the guy. He growled like Haley, he shouted like Lauren, and the result was a mess. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens to Casey on elimination night. Has he re-solidified his fanbase? Can he avoid the bottom three now that there are only six contestants left? We doubt he's going home, so what happens on Thursday will give us a big clue as to Casey fate's going forward.

Unsatisfactory

Jacob Lusk: Since when is it Jimmy's job to carry out the judges' (misguided) wishes? For some reason, Jimmy decided he needed to help Jacob soar and riff to his heart's content. It didn't work out so well. (As if we couldn't have predicted that, based on the way Jacob collapsed in rehearsals and moaned, "Whoa that ain't it!") Exactly. What else is there to say? The rendition was cheesy, the vocals were all over the place, the neck snaps were right out of the Diva 101 playbook. This just might be the end of the road for Jacob.

'Moulin Rouge' Is 'One Of The Best Movies Of All Time,' Joe Jonas Says

Before MTV News' 'Moulin Rouge' live stream Monday at 3 p.m. ET, Jonas recalls working with director Baz Luhrmann on Broadway's 'La Boheme.'
By Jocelyn Vena

As we gear up for our "Moulin Rouge at 10: A Spectacular Spectacular MTV News Event" on Monday, we are remembering why the movie is so memorable a decade later.

Joe Jonas had the pleasure of working with the flick's director Baz Luhrmann back in 2003 as a member of the children's chorus in Luhrmann's Broadway production of Puccini's classic opera "La Boheme," and he has only the fondest memories of the experience.

"It was amazing," he told MTV News. "Funny story for you: I was in 'La Boheme,' [and] I remember being onstage and I didn't know what stage left or stage right was, and I was really confused, and he told me from the audience, he was like, 'All right, take a little bit to the stage left.'

"And I was really confused, and I was really embarrassed," he continued. "I didn't know what he was talking about. He literally walked up onstage and he acted like he was talking to me, and he whispered in my ear, like, 'Go a little bit to the left.' So, for me, the fact that a director would be so cool with me like that, from then on, I was so blown away that he was so cool."

Jonas, who has since gone on to superstardom and even starred in two successful TV musicals ("Camp Rock" and "Camp Rock 2") credits Luhrmann's forward-thinking vision in "Moulin Rouge" for pop culture's current obsession with the genre.

"I think he's an amazing director, and his credits are unbelievable," he said. " 'Moulin Rouge' is one of the best movies of all time, and there's no doubt in that. And I think it really has started a generation of music into TV [and] movies so openly."

MTV News will reunite Luhrmann, Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor to celebrate "Moulin Rouge at 10: A Spectacular Spectacular MTV News Event" on Monday, May 2, at 3 p.m. ET on MTV.com. The director and stars will be joined by co-star John Leguizamo, who played artist Toulouse-Lautrec, and Catherine Martin, who won the Oscar for costume design and art direction. Hosted by MTV News' Josh Horowitz, the live stream will include special appearances and live interviews while looking back at how the film came to be and how its legacy continues to grow.

To get in on the fun, fans can submit questions for the "Moulin Rouge" director and talent via the @MTVNews Twitter handle with the hashtag #AskMoulin.

'Conan The Barbarian' Is A 'Revenge Story,' Jason Momoa Says

'I've never played a role that was played by someone else,' star tells MTV News of Arnold Schwarzenegger's version.
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Jason Momoa in "Conan the Barbarian"
Photo: Simon Varsano

"There's nothing tongue-in-cheek about it at all," Stephen Lang told us about the "Conan the Barbarian" reboot in which he co-stars. His point was that even unapologetic fans of Arnold Schwarzenegger's over-the-top films have to admit that, by the time Hall of Fame center Wilt Chamberlain popped up in 1984's "Conan the Destroyer," the franchise had veered from campily charming to just plain silly.

With Jason Momoa slipping into the title role, Lang promised, this new "Conan" would have more in common with Robert E. Howard's swashbuckling original stories than the Governator's movies. That's certainly the impression we've received from early photos and a teaser trailer, and that's exactly what Momoa himself told us when MTV News caught up with him recently. In fact, the 31-year-old hasn't even seen those earlier films.

"I've never played a role that was played by someone else," he said. "As an actor, to build the character, I wanted to use my imagination and be creative and use my own interpretation."

Thus, Momoa dove into Howard's source material, "Conan" comic books, and the lush artwork of Frank Frazetta. "Both my parents were painters," Momoa said. "You look at those paintings, and you don't need to read a story. You just know that dude is bad."

The flick is set to hit theaters August 19, and as part of MTV News' Summer Movie Preview, we're not only rolling out an exclusive photo of Momoa in character, but had the actor lay out what we can expect to see up onscreen.

"It kind of is an origin story," he said. "It's rebuilding and rebooting the franchise. It starts with his birth, what happened to his family, what happened to his father — obviously his father is killed — and him going into the pirating and the thieving and wandering and being the degenerate that he is and then usurping a throne and finding out who killed his father. It's a revenge story, with a little bit of love in there."

And while Momoa hasn't "actually seen the Arnold stuff," as he put it, he can't wait to finally check it out. "I want to see mine and then I'm going to watch that one — back to back!" he laughed.

It's Summer Movie Preview Week, and MTV News will be bringing you exclusive interviews, clips and photos for the most anticipated films of the coming months. Get ready to gorge on inside looks at "Captain America," "The Hangover Part II," "X-Men: First Class," "Cowboys & Aliens" and more.

An Update To My Investment Policy

Before TechCrunch I was an occasional angel investor, going back to the mid 1990s. I've also made investments since TechCrunch, in companies like Dogster, DanceJam, Seesmic and Daylife. Some people have seen this as a conflict of interest, which it of course is. To counter that I've always disclosed investments, and try not to cover these startups myself. Occasionally when news is breaking quickly or for other reasons, I will write about the company, but with the appropriate disclosure. In 2009 the accusations of conflicts of interest by our competitors became somewhat distracting, and for a couple of years I discontinued investing in startups completely. That policy has now changed. Over the last several months I have begun investing actively again. We've noted these investments in Shawn Fanning's new startup and in Kevin Rose's new startup.

The cast of AMC's The Killingis making a killing today.

Hot on the heels of Heat Vision's exclusive news that Killing star Mireille Enosis in talks to join Paramount's World War Zas Brad Pitt's wife, we can report that co-star Joel Kinnamanis joining the Universal thriller Safe House, starring Denzel Washingtonand Ryan Reynolds.

Swedish actor Kinnaman is reteaming with director Daniel Espinosa, who helmed Kinnaman's breakout film Easy Money/Snabba Cash.

Safe Housefollows the only surviving agent of an attack on a CIA safe house (Reynolds) as he tries to transport a lethal prisoner (Washington) to a second destination before being taken out by violent forces that want them both dead.

In a key role, Kinnaman is playing a man who operates a safe house where Reynolds and Washington show up.

The script was written by David Guggenheim, an Us Weeklyeditor who worked nights on the story and whose spec landed him a new career as a hot Hollywood scribe. Terry Georgedid a polish.

The film, currently shooting in South Africa, also co-stars Tim McGraw,Ruben Blades, Vera Farmigaand Brendan Gleeson.

Kinnaman starred in Easy Money, which scored him U.S. representation with UTA and Magnolia Entertainment. (The film is being developed as a remake by Warner Bros.) Kinnaman's first American role is as the shady detective Stephen Holder in AMC's Killing. The show, now in its fifth week, is a ratings hit and seems to be serving as a powerful career springboard for both Enos and Kinnaman.

Kinnaman's next feature is The Darkest Hour, which also stars Emile Hirsch, Rachel Taylor and Max Minghella. The Summit alien invasion movie is due to open Dec. 23.

'I just gotta get a good night's rest, eat a healthy breakfast,' Chidera 'Chiddy' Anamege tells MTV News.
By Rob Markman

MTV's first digital awards show, the O Music Awards, is shaping up to be quite the event.

Just ask rapper Chidera "Chiddy" Anamege. The MC, who is one-half of the Philly-based rap group Chiddy Bang, will attempt to secure the Guinness World Records title for "Longest Freestyle Rap" in conjunction with the online broadcast. The current record is for nine hours, 15 minutes and 15 seconds and is held by a rapper named M-Eighty out of Indianapolis.

Chiddy has never timed himself while rapping, but he remains confident. "I just gotta get a good night's rest, eat a healthy breakfast," he said. "The rest should just be history. We're just gonna try to make it and break it at the same time."

Xaphoon Jones, the group's other member and producer, will provide the beats for his partner to rhyme to. "We're just gonna basically have, like, two hours worth of instrumentals that my boy Xaph made," said Chiddy, who will then put that custom-made playlist on a continuous loop.

The rapper also hopes to get an assist from his fans via Twitter, who can send the MC topics to rhyme about using the hashtag .

"I will need the help from the fans, anybody that supports me on Twitter, or just supports the group in general, send some topics in," Chiddy said. "As the freestyle is going on, people can be able to send topics through. That will definitely help a great deal as long as there is a steady stream of things to draw from."

The inaugural O Music Awards will stream live from Las Vegas at 11 p.m. ET/ 8 p.m. PT Thursday on OMusicAwards.com. Tune in to see who will reign supreme in categories like Most Viral Dance, Funniest Music Short and NSFW Music Video!

Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV Release Date Pushed Back To June 21

Wayne needs time to put finishing touches on the album, Young Money president Mack Maine tells MTV News.
By Rob Markman

Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV is the most anticipated rap album of 2011 thus far, but fans will have to wait just a little bit longer to hear it. The release date has been pushed back from May 16 to June 21 to allow Wayne to add finishing touches on the LP, according to Young Money president Mack Maine.

"He's still perfecting a few things, he's a perfectionist ... changing a few lines," Mack Maine said of Wayne's recording process. "We also have a huge record that wasn't done yet. We're in L.A. right now. We have a little studio time and it should be done probably by Monday."

Just as Tha Carter III had an all-star lineup — featuring the likes of Jay-Z, T-Pain and Robin Thicke &8212; its follow-up is expected to have guests of the same caliber. Unfortunately, waiting on the album's contributors to turn in their features has added to the delay as well. "If you calculate all of that, by the time we would've finished mixing, we wouldn't have met the [original] due date to turn in the album," said Mack. "So we had to push it back."

As far as Tha Carter IV track list that has been making its way around the Internet, Mack confirms that it isn't final. "I'm pretty sure it can't be all the way accurate, because I don't even have all the features back on some of it, and two [of the] songs haven't been done yet," he said.

Wayne's video for "If I Die Tonight" featuring Rick Ross, which leaked online Tuesday and was quickly taken down, also isn't finalized, according to Mack. The video was obtained by some email hackers but wasn't complete, as Wayne and director Collin Tilley are still going back and forth with edits. Mack estimates that fans can expect a completed version of the clip within the next two weeks.

Tha Carter IV's album cover, which also leaked earlier this week, is real, however. The reveal wasn't intentional and happened only a few hours after the Young Money camp approved the image, which features a picture of Wayne in kindergarten with tattoos on his face. "The same day it leaked out, we had just approved the cover that morning. Soon as we approved it, it leaked out within two hours," the Young Money president said.

And that's not all. While trying to remain as tight-lipped as possible, Mack did dish on Tha Carter IV's next single, which he compares to Weezy's 2008 hit "Lollipop," featuring the late Static Major. "It's more along the lines of a 'Lollipop,' " he said. "People call [them] crossover records and all of that, but [it will be] just one of those [records] that will be liked by the masses."

(Founder Stories) How GroupMe Won SXSW: Grilled Cheese

At this year's overcrowded and overhyped SXSW conference in Austin, one of the few startups to break through the noise was group text messaging app GroupMe. How did GroupMe win SXSW? Grilled cheese. The company rented an outdoor food shack for something like $10,000 and turned it into the GroupMe Grill with free grilled cheese sandwiches and beer. The grilled cheese, says co-founder Steve Martocci in this episode of Founder Stories, was "an homage" to Phish concerts, where grilled cheese sandwiches are consumed in large quantities (watch the video above). The GroupMe Grill became a meeting point for attendees of SXSW, and it was one of the places everyone was taking photos of on Instagram (one of the other "winners" of SXSW). Jason Kincaid stopped by and did this video. All in all, two million text messages were sent through SXSW groups during the week of the event.

Lil B Says I'm Gay LP Title Provoking Death Threats, Slurs

'One-hundred years later, people gonna thank me, because people are going to be free,' the Based God tells MTV News.
By Rob Markman

In his steady rise to rap notoriety, Lil B has relied heavily on his viral fanbase. His multiple MySpace pages, Facebook "likes" and army of Twitter followers have helped propel his music and message. But ever since Lil B announced at Coachella last week that the title of his next album will be I'm Gay, some fans have turned on the Based God. A few have even sent digital death threats.

"People been hitting me up like, 'I'm gonna bash your head in,' 'you f----t,' 'I'm gonna kill you,' " Lil B told MTV News on Thursday (April 21), as he drove to a show at the Mezzanine in San Francisco.

With upcoming shows lined up in Chicago, Detroit and at the Bamboozle Festival in New Jersey in the next few weeks, Lil B showed no signs of fear and said he'd proceed with his scheduled dates.

"I'm not gonna stop and I'm not scared of anybody on earth," he said of the Twitter backlash. "That's why I [titled the album I'm Gay] and nobody gonna stop me."

B insisted he's not a homosexual, but that he is gay, i.e., extremely happy, flipping the word and focusing on its other definition. "I'm very gay, but I love women. I'm not attracted to men in any way. I've never been attracted to a man in my life. But yes I am gay, I'm so happy," he said. "I'm a gay, heterosexual male."

A spokesman for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) told XXLMag.com that they hope Lil B's album title is "not a gimmick, and is really a sincere attempt to be an ally."

B stressed to MTV News that he is in fact a supporter. "I got major love for the gay and lesbian community, and I just want to push less separation and that's why I'm doing it," the Based God said. "I hope GLAAD sees that I'm taking initial steps to break barriers."

When we asked about the makeup of his fanbase, B said he hadn't noticed whether there was any significant portion of his following that identifies as gay, but that some have already had a negative reaction to his title selection.

"A lot of my supporters have turned on me. It's been a few supporters that's saying, 'I'm not gonna rock with you anymore,' " the controversial MC revealed. "That's fine, because you know what? They didn't love me for real anyway."

Although the rapper has yet to begin recording the album, he expects to have it ready and available on iTunes in the next month or two. Lil B also believes that even though he's facing resistance now, in the future he'll be hailed as a hero. "One-hundred years later, people gonna thank me, because people are going to be free. And that's the main thing. Even if it's 1 percent of the people that listen to me and are gonna be free, that's better than none," he said. "That's better than not speaking up at all ... and I spoke up and I did it."

What do you think of Lil B's decision to call his album I'm Gay? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
