Two former WEC champions will appear on Saturday's UFC 144 card. Benson Henderson, the man who held the lightweight for more than a year, will fight Frankie Edgar for the UFC lightweight strap. Anthony Pettis, the man who took Henderson's title with the jaw-dropping "Showtime Kick," will take on Joe Lauzon.
Those MMA fans who have been living under a rock since December 16, 2010, when Pettis beat Henderson, might wonder how it's Henderson, not Pettis challenging Edgar.

After winning the WEC belt in their final event before being absorbed by the UFC, Pettis was supposed to get the next UFC lightweight title shot. He was supposed to fight the winner of Edgar and Gray Maynard's New Years Day 2011 bout.
But Pettis was put on the backburner when Edgar and Maynard's bout ended in a draw. Their rematch was more important than unifying the WEC and UFC belts. Pettis opted not to wait for a title shot, and lost a decision to Clay Guida in June.
For Henderson, it was a win over Guida -- plus beatdowns of Jim Miller and Mark Bocek -- that earned him the title shot at Saitama Super Arena this weekend. No fighter wants to lose, particularly when his belt is on the line, but the loss to Pettis still bothers Henderson. His laid back strategy late in the bout still makes him angry. Was it the best thing to happen to him?
"It was heart-wrenching," he said to MMA Fighting's Ben Fowlkes. "I was sad, and I'm still sad. It was heart-breaking. ...Every time I'm out there, I give you guys everything. I open up my heart and soul. I hold nothing back. To come up short, and to come up short in that manner, that hurt. But I'll never let that happen again."
Even Pettis has noticed the difference in his former opponent.
"Ben was on a tear. He was killing guys in the WEC. Then I come in there, we go five rounds and I win the decision, and he was back to square one. I think a loss makes everyone a little hungrier, and that's what it did for him."
Pettis beat Jeremy Stephens in October. He will fight Lauzon early enough on Saturday's card that, if healthy, he can sit in the crowd and watch Henderson take on Edgar. At just 25, Pettis has plenty of time to get back to a title fight, and what could serve as better fuel than watching the man he beat take the title shot Pettis was supposed to get.

Though MMA's spring schedule is not as dizzying as its winter pace, there are plenty of fight cards that need filling. To that end:
-- Jason "Mayhem" Miller will take on C.B. Dollaway at UFC 146 on Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas. This is Miller's first fight since losing the Michael Bisping at "The Ultimate Fighter" season 14 finale. Dollaway has been finished in his last two bouts, a TKO to Jared Hamman and a KO to Mark Munoz.
-- Evan Dunham and Edson Barboza will also meet at UFC 146. Dunham just fought at UFC on Fox 2, scoring a win over Nik Lentz. Known for his powerful striking, Barboza has never lost. His knockout of Terry Etim at UFC 142 was called one of the best knockouts in UFC history.
-- In Bellator, Eddie Alvarez and Shinya Aoki are expected to meet in April. Alvarez was submitted by an Aoki heel hook in 2008. After that loss, he won seven straight before losing a classic title bout to Michael Chandler. Aoki is currently holds the DREAM lightweight belt.

IF you want to see the benefits of the Greater Bristol Bus Network, Bristol City Council says, just look at Bath Road. Four months ago the Evening Post received a seemingly never ending stream of criticism of the changes being made along one of the busiest commuter routes in the city.
Drivers, bus passengers, traders and people using the park and ride from Brislington all said traffic jams were getting worse, not better.
But since it was completed, those complaints have all but disappeared.
The time it takes to get from Three Lamps to Hicks Gate has been cut from between 10 minutes and 40 minutes to between 10 minutes and 12 minutes, the council says.
The Evening Post visited the council's state-of-the-art traffic control centre in Stokes Croft to talk to the GBBN team about the £78 million project.
The centre in Wilder Street has access to hundreds of cameras all across the city. They allow the traffic team to monitor any jams or accidents and deal with problems in real time.
Using the cameras to show the whole of the Bath Road during rush hour one evening this week, one thing was quite clear – there were no jams.
Traffic was free flowing, and even queues at traffic lights cleared quickly.
There was no problem with vehicles being stuck on repeated cycles of red to green and back to red.
The council says it is all down to the changes they have been able to make through the GBBN scheme.
Adam Crowther, traffic signals manager, said: "Five or six years ago we had two cameras on the Bath Road.
"We couldn't really see, so we put fibre optics and cameras along the whole length of the route."
This allows the council to redirect traffic snarl-ups down side roads and alleviate problems.
The bulk of the works were physical changes to the junctions along the route, particularly around the Brislington Park and Ride.
Mr Crowther said: "There were two really bad congestion points, Sandy Park and the park and ride.
"On Sandy Park we took out a section of bus lane that was holding up traffic. It made a major change inbound."
The council has also taken the opportunity to bring forward road resurfacing so it's done at the same time as roadworks for the GBBN changes. Now the road will not have to be resurfaced for another 30 years.
All this has resulted in more reliable journeys on buses and the park and ride, the council says.
Passenger transport group manager Steve Bird said: "One of the biggest issues in Bristol is the bus service. People have been crying out for a decent bus service and now we're providing a decent offer.
"We're confident from our previous experience there will be, and is, a step change in the quality of public transport."
Bath Road is just one of the 10 routes that are included in the GBBN project.
The others are; A367 Bath to Midsomer Norton; Bristol to Cribbs Causeway; Mangotsfield to Cribbs; M32 bus lane; A369 Bristol to Portishead; A4018 College Green to Cribbs; A432 Bristol to Yate; A37 Bristol to Midsomer Norton; A370 Bristol to Weston-super-Mare.
Officers say they have provided bespoke solutions to all of the major traffic problem points along the ten routes, and have not simply taken a one-size-fits-all approach.
Mr Bird said: "Each of the corridors has different features. Whiteladies Road has a very large retail and residential area, so the primary purpose isn't to get traffic through as quickly as possible."
The GBBN project is not just about improving journey times though.
There are safety benefits as well. One example is the pedestrian crossing at the Emery Road junction, which means children can now cross safely to St Brendan's School.
A new bus stop near the ITV West studios means people do not have to walk along the pavement-free side of the road.
Businesses have also benefited, the council says.
Before the changes to the Bath Road, half of the row of shops by the Murco garage at Bristol Hill were empty.
Now they are all occupied and the council actually had to leave its consultation shop because a tenant was due to move in.
The scheme has seen 450 trees planted and 500 bins installed.
According to surveys, bus passenger satisfaction has gone up significantly from 2007 to 2011, although this relates to the whole network and not just the ten GBBN routes.
The council accepts there has been disruption but believes in the long term everyone will benefit.
Highway traffic manager Terry Bullock said: "It's been a difficult time for everybody but it's done now, so people can look forward to good journeys for many years to come."

A SOMBRE vigil was held to remember Thornbury vicar John Suddards, as detectives continued to question the man suspected of his murder.
The popular clergyman, 59, right, was found stabbed at his vicarage last Tuesday morning.
Stephen Farrow, 47, was arrested at about 4am on Sunday following a nationwide appeal to find him.
Yesterday afternoon, Bristol magistrates granted Avon and Somerset police a further 36 hours to question him, allowing them to do so until tomorrow morning if necessary.
They will then be able to ask for a further extension of 18 hours to decide whether to charge or release him.
After six days of grieving, parishioners made their way to St Mary's Church last night to remember Rev Suddards, who had become very popular despite only having arrived in Thornbury from Essex last July.
The church on Castle Street had been cordoned off from last Tuesday morning, when workmen found his body, but was reopened to the public on Sunday.
The Evening Post reported yesterday that detectives had linked Mr Suddards' death with that of retired teacher Betty Yates, 77, who was found dead at the bottom of stairs at her home near Bewdley on the banks of the river Severn on Wednesday, January 4, having been killed two days earlier.
Mrs Yates was attacked with her own walking stick before being stabbed to death.
No one has yet been charged with her murder.
Mr Farrow was arrested in Folkestone, Kent, on Sunday after a tip-off from a member of the public.
A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "It can be confirmed that, following close liaison with Avon and Somerset Police, detectives have formally linked the murder of Mrs Yates to the murder of the Reverend John Suddards in South Gloucestershire."
Avon and Somerset police appealed for help in tracing Mr Farrow shortly after releasing a 43-year-old man they had been questioning for more than three days.
Mr Suddards' murder has devastated his family and colleagues, and shocked the Thornbury community.
In Thornbury, nearly 300 people packed into the town's baptist church on Friday for a service in his memory.
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Crisp said: "I would like to thank members of the public for all their help in this investigation so far.
"We continue to encourage anyone who has not yet come forward to do so if they feel there is anything they think would help the investigation."
Anyone with information on either of the murders should call the force non-emergency number 101 and ask for Avon and Somerset or West Mercia Police. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
